Detective Conan & Kindaichi Case Files on Nintendo DS Coming in English on June 29th from DCTP

Conan Kindaichi Release Date PosterAt long last, we are ready to announce that our English translation of Detective Conan & Kindaichi Case Files: Chance Encounter of 2 Great Detective for Nintendo DS will be released on JUNE 29th, 2015.

Here is a little of what to expect from the game:

  • Over 40 hours of gameplay
  • Play as Conan or Kindaichi over eight chapters in an entirely original story
  • Fully translated into English for the first time
  • Playable on PC / Mac via emulator, and Nintendo DS systems with a flash card
  • Bonus omake elements added for fans to uncover throughout the game

Upon release, we will be publishing a full, step-by-step guide in order to help you get up and running as quickly as possible. Still, if any of the ensuing instructions are confusing, don’t worry. We will be here to assist everyone in getting the game running on their systems in the eventual release post and on the forums.

Read on for a brief rundown on how you will be able to play the game once it is released in less than two weeks on June 29th, as well as the answers to some frequently asked questions.

How will I be able to play the game?

The process is simple and involves only downloading a copy of the game, downloading our patch to translate everything into English, and then patching the game into English with a specific program. Afterward, the game can be loaded into your emulator or onto your flashcard to play. We will assist everyone with getting all of the necessary materials at launch.

How do I then patch my copy of the game?

Once you have a copy of the game, you will need to download a patch from the game’s subsite here. Next, you will use the program XDELTA to combine the original game file and patch file into your English copy of the game.

How can I play my patched copy of the game?

The English version of the game can then be flawlessly played on an emulator, such as DeSmuME. Alternatively, if you are familiar with the practice and have the requisite hardware, you may of course also play the game on a physical Nintendo DS system should you own a flash card. Otherwise, we recommend playing the game on an emulator for ease of access.

Can you help me localize the game into my language as well?

Unfortunately, due to the great deal of work involved in appropriating all of the text mapping, game assets, scripts, code, puzzles, et cetera into English, it is not possible for us to assist in translating the game into another language.

Why are there honorifics (-san, -kun, et cetera) in the game?

The script to this game was edited and overseen by longtime staff members of the Detective Conan Translation Project responsible for our past Detective Conan projects. As such, we proceeded with this final release from DCTP as a suitable extension of our past efforts. You can expect the formatting and general style of the game to be in accordance with our releases in other mediums.

What do I do if I find a glitch or problem?

We are doing our best to ensure the game is completable without any great issue, so upon release, we are hopeful everyone will be able to play the game to completion. However, due to the size of the game, with over 500 scripts of branching paths that require adherence to strict character limits, we expect minor issues such as typographical errors here and there within the game. If you encounter a game-breaking bug, please report it on the forums.
